Amor del Nino is one of the few orphanages in Guatemala that accepts children with special needs. Trauma has occurred in the life of each child who comes to us and makes every child have special needs. But that is aggravated in the case of many of our children by physical and mental disabilities.

A unique collaboration of care has allowed us by God's grace to see healing and improvement in many of our children. Surgeons, doctors and therapists from the US as well as Guatemala have provided excellent services, sometimes at little or no cost to us. The personnel in the National Hospitals know Shyrel by name, and she has coordinated over 20 surgeries and chemotherapies for our children.

Special education instruction is provided in our home, as well as the therapies recommended by our visiting teams of Occupational, Speech and Physical therapists. These therapies combined with the sense of security and love that permeate a love focused home have enabled children deemed hopeless to gain levels of competence and confidence that could be called miraculous.
